” A Mother’s Journey with Her Albino Son in a World of Prejudice”.

Dorian Johnson, a mother from Williamsburg, Virginia, has bravely shared her family’s story of facing discrimination due to her black toddler, Zavied, and his albino twin brother, Zakari. Despite both parents being black, two-year-old Zavied was born with albinism, resulting in snow-white skin and golden hair. Sadly, strangers often question if Zavied is adopted, causing hurtful and uncomfortable situations for Dorian.

Dorian speaks out against the everyday racism she encounters as the mother of an albino child, hoping to raise awareness and end discrimination against children with albinism. She emphasizes that her sons, despite their differences in appearance, are happy and healthy, and their well-being should be the only thing that matters.

Zavied’s diagnosis of oculocutaneous albinism, the most common type of albinism, came as a shock to Dorian and her partner, Michael Stepney. Despite initial fears about potential bullying and challenges, Dorian is determined to teach Zavied self-love and acceptance.

She finds it disheartening when strangers question Zavied’s relationship to her and believes it’s crucial for her son to understand his uniqueness positively. Dorian strives to prepare Zavied for any future encounters with ignorance or discrimination, emphasizing the importance of self-confidence and family support.

Despite the challenges they face, Dorian is immensely proud of her sons and cherishes their bond as brothers. She remains hopeful that with increased awareness and understanding, society can become more accepting and inclusive of children like Zavied. Ultimately, she wants her son to embrace his uniqueness and live a fulfilling and happy life, free from the constraints of prejudice.
