Αs a phenomenon that emerged to stir public opinion in Thailand and around the world in 2008, the strange human-shaped fruit tree Nareepol has so far not had a proper explanation.
While the appearance of the Nariphon fruit may be surreal, there is a scientific rationale behind this intriguing phenomenon.
The fruit’s distinctive shape and features are the result of a natural genetic mutation known as “phyllody.” This mutation causes the fruit’s sepals, which are normally responsible for protecting and supporting the developing fruit, to grow in an unusually elongated and humanoid manner, giving rise to its uncanny resemblance.
The Nariphon Tree and its mini-woman fruit hold significant cultural and artistic value in the regions where they are found. They have inspired numerous legends, folklore, and artistic representations, including paintings, sculptures, and even literary works. The allure of these unusual fruits has also made them sought-after collector’s items and cultural artifacts, symbolizing luck, fertility, and the mystical connection between humans and nature.

Preservation and Conservation

According to Thai folklore, a god named Indra planted the trees in a forest called Himaphan so the creatures could protect his wife. The trees are known as the Nariphon and is believed to bear the fruit of young female creatures. The story goes that Buddhist God Indra a home in the forest for his wife Vessantara and his two children.
But when Vessantara went out into the forest to collect food, she was in danger of being attacked by terrifying male creatures. Indra then created 12 special Nariphon trees which would bear fruit in his wife’s image to distract the creatures while she picked her own food.
The men would take these fruits back to their homes and after making love to them would sleep for four months, and lose their powers. There are said to be a number of Nariphon pods stored in Luang Pho Jarun at Wat Ampawan In Singburi Buddhist temple near Bangkok.
But interest in the Nariphon trees has led to a number of hoaxes, leading many to believe that this lates footage is fake. Meanwhile, a facebook blogger revealed on a post that the entire footage is a hoax saying that if such extraordinary event happened only every 20 years, then no photographer will miss the event.
But there are no other images or footages can be found. Despite everything, the images of this woman-shaped fruit tree still attract a lot of attention, interest, and even public interest.
However, at the Singburi Buddhist temple in Luang Pho Jarun, Wat Αmpawan, near Bangkok, Thailand, people are still keeping and worshiping two dried bodies believed to be withered Nareepol fruit.
Thus, the story of this “woman” tree is still being left open, waiting for the most reliable and reasonable answer from scientists in the world.
