China is a country that probably has the richest history in the world. It’s a country that has influenced the world throughout time, and although it might seem like we already know everything that exists there, there are a lot of things that will make you question reality… From totally weird-looking fish, lizards that don’t even look real, to a literal dragon… in this video, we’re going to be talking about 10 of the most mysterious creatures found only in China!
Chinese Sturgeons

When we’re talking about weird, mysterious creatures, Chinese Sturgeons have to be on the list! These fish have been around for centuries! Yup, they haven’t evolved dramatically like most of the animals and fish we have today, they used to be exactly like this when the dinosaurs were swimming about, and they’re the same now! Although this fish is now critically endangered, it can still be found in the Chinese waters. When you take a look at one of these, you’d notice just how weird they are! They look like they’re upside down, and have a very “ancient” look, with what looks like an entire spine, all around it! What’s crazier, is that this fish isn’t small by any means, they grow up to 16 feet in length, and can weigh 1,100 pounds! Can you imagine coming across one of these in the open waters? Talk about a spooky sight!
Flying Dragon

Lizards are pretty much all over the world, but does the entire world have dragons? Flying dragons? Because that’s exactly what you can find in China! Xianglong is a lizard that’s literally a dragon! When you first look at the lizard, it looks like a normal lizard, but if it is threatened, it’ll either attack the opponent, or it’ll get to higher ground, and make a great escape, using its wing-like gliders! Yup, it literally glides through the air like they’re flying, and they don’t just like little hops here and there, they can glide up to 100 feet in just one jump! If you’re making your way through the Chinese forests, there’s a chance you might just get attacked by a tiny flying dragon, soaring through the wind!
Dugong China

Conservationist experts have reported that the dugong – a giant, gentle marine herbivorous mammal belonging to the manatee family – is now “functionally extinct” in China, with no sightings of this charismatic creature since 2008. Since 1970, the number of dugongs in waters close to mainland China has decreased significantly, largely due to human activities.
The dugong is known to slowly roam the coastlines of tropical and subtropical countries, feeding upon seagrass from shallow waters. This strictly herbivorous mammal can grow up to ten feet in length and weigh over 1,000 pounds. In a press release covering the new findings, the scientists argued that there are “strong indications that this is the first functional extinction of a large mammal in China’s coastal waters,” an area where they have been observed for centuries.
